Copyrifht 1940 by Oxford University Frets ) In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone out of Egypt, came they into the wilderness of Sinai . . . and camped before the mount. And Moses went npJunto God, and the Lord called unto him, saying. Thus shalt thqu tell the chil dren of Israel: If ye will keep my covenant, theih ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people. And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. And Moses called for the elders of the people, and lafd before their faces all these words which the LeVd o i mended him. And Moses told the words of the people unlo the Lord. And the Lord said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanc tify them today and tomorrow, and let them waspi their clothes, and bo ready against the third day: for the third day the Lord will come down in the sight of all the people upon Mount Sinai . . . And on the third day in the morning there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people in the camp trembled. And Mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because tha Lord descended upon it la firs. And God spaka: I am the Lord thy God, which have brought jthoe out of the land of Egypt, out of tha house of bondage. Thoa shalt have no other gods before me. f Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven Image, or any likeness of anything that Is la heaven above, orj that Is la the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. ' ! And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and they stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. And Moses said. Tear not: for God is come to jprove you, and that bis fear may be before your faces, that ye pla net.
